Joy Filled Mornings

I love mornings. I especially love slow mornings. The -making breakfast from scratch while sipping a cup of coffee- kind of mornings. Pour, stir, sip. Windows open, music playing, baking, and making. Those are my kind of mornings. Simple, slow, and savory. I think one of the reasons I love the mornings is because of its symbolism. A new day, a fresh start. Yesterday's sins and shortcomings are gone. The Lord uses the symbol of the morning several times throughout Scripture:

Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.

-Psalm 30:5b

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

-Lamentations 3:22-23

I love meditating on these passages at the start of my day. No matter what sorrows yesterday held, joy comes with the morning. His promises will come to fruition. No matter how many times the Father forgave me yesterday, His mercies are new every morning. What powerful and motivating truths to dwell on at the beginning of the day.

I combined my love for coffee + scripture + mornings and created these hand-stamped coffee-stirrers out of antique spoons.

They will be available for a limited time, so head on over to the shop if you want one!

Mini Scones

-Recipe for scones found in volume 1 of (the new) Deeply Rooted Magazine. I made the scones miniature-sized and ate them with honey + almond butter (pictured above). You could also do a simple vanilla glaze to go on them if you want something a little sweeter. They didn't take long at all to make, and they were so good. The magazine is worth the download for the recipes alone, but it also contains articles  on marriage, daily life, and sharing your faith--all with the solid foundation of the Word of God.

Coffee

-If you're looking for a good coffee recipe, check out this coffee series. I've been wanting to try the almond mocha desperately.

The Changing of Seasons

With a new season comes change. Sometimes we fear change out of our desire to remain in the comforts we know and trust. But changes are inevitable and often necessary. The changing of this season brings the good kind of change. Spring brings warmer weather, longer days of sunshine, and (my favorite) spring blossoms. I truly believe in Ralph Waldo Emerson’s observation that the earth laughs in flowers.

As we emerge out of the winter frost, this little space is also emerging with some changes that I am so excited about! While we have always supported nonprofits with the sales of our jewelry, we are taking a step to officially partner with NorthStar Youth Ministries. This organization is near to my heart and is doing great things in the lives of children in Birmingham, Alabama. You can  visit their website to learn more about this amazing ministry.

I hope this season brings you the good kind of change. Change that cuts out the excess of busyness, brings about many adventures, and leads to lots of laughter.

A Glimpse Inside My Studio

Here's a little peak inside my workplace.

Sometimes it's organized and tidy, and sometimes it looks like a tornado passed over my desk.

When I'm dreaming up new ideas and sketching designs, I like my desk completely tidy. When I'm in the midst of making lots of jewelry, I flourish in organized chaos.

A few home studio essentials:

  • Pegboard- this is a life saver. It keeps all of my tools in arm's length and I can change it up at any time.
  • Idea Notebook & Planner- necessary for any creative types. A few favorites: 1/2/3/4
  • Filing System- I keep all of my receipts organized in this and have a separate notebook for orders
  • Washi Tape- I use this tape for e v e r y t h i n g. You can buy some on Amazon.
  • Magazine Inspiration-KinfolkDarlingCereal
Merry & Bright

It's been quite a year.

Things may be a bit quiet around here as the holidays and moving days (!!!) draw nearer.

All items are still for sale in the online shop, and I will be updating more with more exciting news and jewelry once the new year hits. Thanks for supporting Alex Fly Designs!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
